Ella Bertilsson

Biography

Ella Bertilsson's practice deals with autobiographical concerns which focus on personal memories and passed on stories in relation to a specific time or place. The process of making new work develops for her as an unknown journey and a personal investigation that closely relates to memory and how it intertwines and changes over time. These notions take the form of fictional narratives that are heavily influenced by literature from her native county of Västerbotten. Bertilsson's practice ranges across a variety of media including printmaking, drawing, video and audio.

The installation-based work Bertilsson produces concentrates on every-day objects and how they connect to her fictional audio-narratives. Through these installations Bertilsson explores the subjective experience of time, cultural identity and displacement.

Bertilsson completed a Masters of Fine Art with a first class honours in 2015 at NCAD (National College of Art and Design) in Dublin/ Ireland. She pursued Literature Studies during 2011-2012 at the University of Södertörns Högskola in Stockholm/Sweden. In 2009 she graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Art Print (first class honours) at NCAD.

Bertilsson (b. Umeå/Sweden 1982) is based in Dublin and has been a member of the Black Church Print Studio since 2009.
