Rachel Likely

Artist Statement

In her work, Rachel Likely seeks to explore the marrying of lithography and found material. Using litho's as a starting point, she responds to these drawings, combining them with objects to create playful incidents, which relate one to another. Often the drawings form the bedrock which house the very specific and deliberate placing of found objects, creating an interplay between these objects/materials and the organic line and marks of lithography. Likely often uses this process as an approach to developing her drawings further, manipulating and tweaking the images, adding a further point of curiosity. Many of Likely's works are playful and mischievous as a way of seducing the viewer and drawing them in, catching them with visual hooks.
