Born in Waterford, Caroline Byrne was raised in Dublin and studied in the College of Marketing and Design in her early years. She then moved to San Francisco and returned to college after seven years to complete a masters in Illustration at the Edinburgh College of Art in 2002. She joined the Black Church Print Studio in 2004. Caroline works primarily in relief print making and creating Artists books. She teaches printmaking at the National Print Museum and the Black Church. Her work is held in private and public collections including The National Irish Visual Arts Library (NIVAL) at NCAD.
Largely informed by her drawing practice Caroline’s current work observes the path from movement to silence (the silence that exists in a rhythmical movement). The blind emboss explores this theme while combining elements of drawing and printmaking.
